ARC grant for Harpur project

An Australian Research Council grant has been awarded for 2009-2013 for the preparation of a variorum edition of the complete poetry of the most important colonial Australian poet, Charles Harpur. His extensive notes on his poems burrow through most of the cultural and political agendas of the day. They will also be edited for the electronic and book-based edition. Paul Eggert and Elizabeth Webby are the editors, but the electronic materials (to be mounted at SETIS will invite collaborative interpretation by other scholars. Peter Robinson (University of Birmingham)will be the principal technical adviser.
Part of the grant is an Australian Research Council professorial fellowship for Eggert. He will write a study of the methodologies of book history and textual criticism, with Harpur as one of the case studies.
