Computational Facilities:

Within the School

The School has a computer laboratory with 24 PC work stations.

The School maintains six Unix workstations (from Sun Sparc to Sun Ultra SParc class). These machines are used for CAD/CAM, Finite Element structural and Finite Element/Boundary Element acoustic analysis, and numerical simulation of fluids. A computing laboratory within the School includes15 X-terminals and terminal emulators.

Other computers and intelligent terminals within the School include a large number of Tektronix X-terminals, Macintosh Power PCs and Pentium type PCs.

Software packages available within the School include CADDSMAN, MATLAB, SYSNOISE, ANSYS, STRAND6, FLUENT and RAYNOISE The common high-level languages are supported.

At the Academy

The Computer Centre of the Academy is equipped with a range of computers and their associated hardware to support the administration, teaching and research activities of the Academy and, in addition provides programming support and program and data entry services. In addition to general purpose computing the Centre is responsible for the Academy Local Area Network (LAN) which is interfaced to terminals and computers distributed throughout the Academy, Telecom dial in lines, AUSTPAC (the Australian packet switched network) and other networks including networks outside Australia. Terminals on the LAN are installed in terminal laboratories in the Computer Centre, academic and administrative departments and the student accommodation. The Centre also provides support for the Academy's microcomputer systems. A campus-wide Ethernet connects most computers and terminals in the University College. The Ethernet can be used from most offices and laboratories in the School.

Internet Access

The School has a number of links to external computing facilities. The University College is a member of AARNet, the Australia wide academic computing network, which gives access to almost all other university computing systems in Australia, for electronic mail, data transfer and general computing. AARNet gives access to Internet, which provides links to institutions in 19 countries.
