Range of Projects

The expertise of the staff and the availability of modern measuring and analysing instrumentation mean that the range of projects which can be undertaken by the Unit is quite extensive. Projects which have been undertaken by members of the Acoustics and Vibration Unit include the following general areas:

  • Environmental noise monitoring and assessment. Road traffic, train and aircraft noise studies and surveys including reports for government agencies. Studies on noise abatement policies
  • Measurements and analysis for room and building acoustics. Airconditioning noise studies
  • Occupational noise assessment
  • Effects of vibrations on humans
  • Machinery noise and vibration identification and control
  • Measurement and prediction of structural vibration and modal analysis
  • Advanced signal processing techniques for acoustics and vibration studies
  • Finite element, boundary element modelling and statistical energy analysis

Some of the clients for whom projects have been undertaken in recent years include Federal and ACT Government environmental, planning and transport authorities, insurance companies and solicitors, BHP, VFT Joint Venture, Ove Arrup, Maunsell, Auspace, ACTION Bus, Australian Federal Police, Australian Geological Survey Office and various companies throughout Australia.
