Professional and Teaching Experience
Extensive professional experience as a structural design engineer with the Commonwealth Government design authority- particularly in the area of structural dynamics including machine induced vibrations, footfall induced vibrations, earthquake design of structures and blast effects on structures. For the latter part of my career with the Commonwealth Government I was responsible for the design of numerous blast resistant facilities for the Department of Defence and, from 1983-1996, the provision of structural engineering oversight to many of the major Defence explosives trials at Woomera.
Whilst at ADFA I have been responsible for the delivery of courses in Structural Analysis (Third Year), Structural Design (both Steel and Concrete) and Integrated Design (Fourth Year).Research Interests
Blast effects on structures, Failure mechanisms in elements subjected to severe dynamic loads, CFD modelling of blast phenomena, Earthquake effects on structures.
Consulting Interests
Analysis of blast effects on structures, Design provisions against terrorist attack, Design advice for blast resistant facilities generated by both condensed phase and fuel air explosions.
