Strategic Initiatives

At the end of each year, the SASG develops a range of strategic initiatives to be undertaken in the following year.  These initiatives are developed in consultation with academic staff and SASG staff.

The listing provides a summary of the key initiatives to be undertaken in 2006:

Initiative Name
Purpose
E-Learning Framework

To provide a discussion context within which, future development and implementation of e-Learning can occur at UNSW@ADFA, and ETS can investigate UNSW@ADFA future needs for an LMS.

Developing e-Commerce potential

To develop and deploy an e-Commerce module for sales of ETS products via the web.

Tutorial Room Educational Technology

To identify the technology needs of centrally supported tutorial rooms and develop a roll out plan.

Auditing and Refurbishment of V & I S Equipment Loan Capability

To inventory current loan equipment and identify equipment to be acquired to provide a high quality equipment loan service to staff at UNSW@ADFA.

Repository of Digital Images

To provide a repository of digital images to be available on line to meet the various and varying needs of UNSW@ADFA client groups.

Rich Media Development

The nature of the courses taught at UNSW @ADFA lends itself to the use of rich media for activities and interactions. Basic software for rich media work has been purchased and a number of initiatives undertaken. Streaming video is a matter of course using the streaming server at Kensington campus.

Evaluation of Learning Management Systems

To evaluate and test four learning management systems for the use at UNSW@ADFA.
Evaluation of a (Learning) Content Management System (L)CMS

The development and implementation of a (Learning) Content Management System (LCMS) for use at UNSW@ADFA has been raised and discussed in a number of contexts. One of the key issues is to develop a suitable understanding which will enable any future specification of a CMS to truly reflect the needs of UNSW@ADFA and the potential impact on SASG. This project is designed to provide this experience in a cost effective manner.

Such a CMS might also be used to manage research output and artefacts or perhaps digital objects, including documents, for more administrative purposes. Indeed, it also provides the potential for the development of e-portfolios.

Unified processes for client management

(Help Desks within SASG)

To provide a unified SASG approach to the provision of assistance and “help” to clients, and in broad terms yield the following:

a unified SASG assistance “flavour” whereby clients will be able to interact with the different service elements of the SASG in a consistent manner.

Support for research

To ensure the SASG units provide effective support for research activities at UNSW@ADFA.
