Defence Threat Reduction

Course Overview

The aim of this Defence Threat Reduction (CBRNE) Course is to provide information and practical experience of the fundamentals and the science behind the use of Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives weapons.  It has been designed to enable participants to gain a level understanding which will enhance their ability to manage and to deal with incidents involving CBRNE.  The course can be configured to meet the needs of the customer, ranging from basic knowledge of key issues for management, to in-depth knowledge required by first responders to deal with CBRNE incidents.

Course Outline

The course will include the study of the science and technology behind each of the five CBRNE methods of warfare and associated acts of terrorism, and their immediate and long-term impact on individuals and on communities.  It will also focus on the practices involved in dealing with and monitoring contamination from incidents, both deliberate and accidental.  There will be a practical component associated with the in-depth course.  The length of the course and its specific contents will be agency dependent.
