Information Security

Course Overview

The aim of this course is to provide attendees with an understanding of the issues associated with the design, provision and management of security services and systems for modern communications and information systems, particularly for the Internet.  It is an introductory course aimed at non-technical managers and business planners.

The course is ideal for those who need to understand the impact of information security on their business; no background knowledge is assumed, although attendance at our Internet Technologies course is recommended for attendees who do not have a current background in internetworking.

Course Presenters

Dr Michael Frater, Dr Mark Pickering and Dr Michael Ryan

Dr Mark Pickering is a Senior Lecturer with the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, at UNSW@ADFA. . Since joining the University of New South Wales, he has lectured in a range of subjects including analogue communications techniques, and digital image processing. He has been actively involved in the development of the recent MPEG international standards for audio-visual communications. He is currently supervising several PhD projects including a joint project in conjunction with the Australian Defence Science and Technology Organisation (DSTO) on image understanding for surveillance applications. Mark holds Bachelor, Masters and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Electrical Engineering and has co-authored 12 journal papers and over 40 international conference papers on image processing, compression and communications.
