Converted media

ETS can also convert your current resources into electronic form or package materials onto different media. For example we can:

  • Scan and digitise print based materials to pdf files
  • Convert a Microsoft Word (doc) to an Adobe Acrobat (pdf) file
  • Digitise video tape to DVD
  • Convert a web site to a pdf file
  • Package a web site as a DVD or CD
  • Reduce the file size of some graphics and pdf files

NOTE: Each lecturer must ensure that copyright and intellectual property matters have been attended to. Advice on such matters may be obtained through the Academy Library.

While ETS can digitise your personal materials, a request to digitise published materials must be made to the Academy Library so that the materials can be appropriately catalogued, etc.

You are advised to request such

Packaged media

The electronic resources you create, independently or in consultation with ETS, can be packaged as a part of a larger electronic resources (such as a web site) or produced as a media product. Most common media products include CD-ROM, DVD-ROM or DVD-video.

For instance a DVD-ROM for off campus students may include a web site which has access to

  • a Course Outline pdf,
  • content modules provided as web pages
  • audio and/or video snippets accessed from those web pages
  • interactive simulations using Flash also embedded on the web pages
  • links to readings to be downloaded live from a global database (through the Academy library web site)

The DVD-ROM might be accompanied by a DVD-video containing TV programs kept by the Academy Library that students need to view as part of their study.

If you expect to use such extensive packaged media with your class, you are advised to contact the Flexible Learning Team to begin planning at least six months before students require the materials.
