| Academic Language and Learning Unit Advisory Committee |
|
The ALL Unit was established in February 2006 to enhance student learning at UNSW@ADFA. During its first 10 months of existence in 2006 it provided 23 courses, workshops and guest lectures which reached more than a thousand student places, conducted 385 individual consultations, and created a web page with links to online learning resources. Its importance to our faculty mission was underlined by its inclusion in the 2007 ATR as the flagship of the UNSW@ADFA Student Learning Enhancement Programs. The ALL Unit is currently located within the HASS buildings, the academic staff of the Unit are supervised by the Head of School of HASS, and the administrative staff (when able to be employed) are under the broad supervision of the HASS Executive Officer. The Unit’s Coordinator reports to the Head of School, by way of regular meetings and reports, and to the Rector by way of an Annual Report. Though the ALL Unit developed from an initiative within the School of HASS, and built on an existing HASS program, it clearly has a faculty-wide academic role. It is a role which, with the appropriate guidance, can grow and be even more effective. This Committee gives the Unit an advisory and management framework within which it can refine and give better effect to these broader goals. The Committee gives the ALL Unit a chance to formulate the priorities of its academic program and its funding and business plans with the guidance of key stakeholders, as well as encouraging faculty-level understanding of, and engagement with, its activities. |
