About us

The Ethics of War and Peace (EWAP) working group was inaugurated at the first Oceanic Conference on International Studies (OCIS) in Canberra (14-16 July 2004).  Our working group is open to all interested scholars and is intended to be cross-disciplinary.  The subject matter we discuss and debate includes:

  • the laws and ethics of armed intervention
  • Just War doctrine
  • pacifist ethics
  • international humanitarian law
  • ethics in the military profession
  • regulating the conduct of contemporary warfare

‘Ethics of war and peace’ also embraces a variety of other topics, and the subject matter to be covered by the EWAP group is in the hands of its members.  Participation in the working group provides opportunities for members to exchange ideas and information on relevant events, publications, seminars, conferences and courses.
