Honours for new PhD student
Ms Kerry Neale, soon to undertake her PhD candidature in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS), has in addition to a University Medal in History been awarded the David Campbell prize from The Australian National University. This prize was established by Manning Clark to commemorate the Australian poet David Campbell, and "is awarded to a student whose entry of written work shows the most promise in the writing of Australian history as a branch of literature."
Ms Neale is an exceptional student who will be taking up one of the new UNSW Research Excellence Awards in order to study with supervisor Dr John Connor in HASS. These scholarships, offered for the first time in 2008, are available to students of outstanding research potential. Applications are invited from University Medallists and Honours candidates who are ranked first in their Honours year from any Australian or New Zealand University in any discipline. The scholarship comprises an annual stipend of approx. $30,000 (APA stipend valued at $20,007 plus $10,000) plus relocation expenses for students outside the Sydney area to a maximum of $5,000.
