Applied Linguistics Research

The field of Applied Linguistics is represented in HASS by the staff of the Academic Language and Learning (ALL) Unit, and their research interests relate primarily to the use of English as a first or other language in higher education.  They include: discourse analysis, critical literacy, inter-cultural communication, contrastive rhetoric, academic writing, teaching of pronunciation, and the scholarship of teaching and learning.  Fiona Cotton is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Academic Language and Learning (JALL) and is on the committee of ATESOL, ACT.
