Teaching and Learning Committee Terms of Reference
The Teaching and Learning Committee is a Standing Committee of the Academic Board of UNSW@ADFA. Its main purpose is to foster and encourage commitment to best teaching practice throughout UNSW@ADFA.
The functions of the Committee are to advise the Academic Board, the Rector and the Associate Dean (Education) on matters relating to education, education policy and strategy; and other matters referred to the committee; and to encourage and coordinate the work of the Schools in the improvement of teaching and learning.
Main Objectives
- To consider and make recommendations on nominations for the UNSW@ADFA Teaching Awards and the Guidelines for the Awards;
- To maintain and develop the annual Teaching and Learning seminar series;
- To coordinate ad hoc projects, as referred to it by the Rector, the Associate Dean (Education) or the Academic Board;
- To support the process of mapping graduate attributes in UNSW@ADFA courses and programs, as informed by the UNSW statement of graduate attributes;
- To foster an environment in which curriculum development, teaching and assessment are valued and rewarded;
- To encourage experimentation and innovative practice in teaching and learning;
- To encourage the use of appropriate educational technology in curriculum development, teaching and assessment practices;
- To enhance teaching and learning facilities and provide a physical environment conducive to study;
- To support the Associate Dean (Education) in the implementation and use of the Course and Teaching Evaluation and Improvement Process (CATEI) at UNSW@ADFA, with emphasis on achieving course and teaching improvements, as guided by the UNSW Academic Board; and
- To advise the Rector on the allocation of funds targeted for the support of teaching and learning initiatives at UNSW@ADFA.
Reporting
- To the Rector, the Associate Dean (Education) or the Academic Board on specific matters referred to the committee; and
- Annually to the Academic Board (usually the October/November meeting) on the activities of the committee.
