401 Degrees Awarded
The UNSW Chancellor, Mr David Gonski awarded 401students with
their degrees across two conferring ceremonies on Wednesday 13
December.
A total of 254 undergraduate midshipmen and officer cadets and
147 postgraduate students were presented with their degrees in
Arts, Business, Science, Engineering and Technology from UNSW.
The Chancellor also presented one of two University Medals awarded
to this year’s graduating students and awarded an Honorary
Doctorate of Letters to a serving senior Naval Officer.
University Medals were awarded to Andrew Wegener, (Army) and
Pilot Officer Paul Andrews, RAAF.
The University Medallist, Andrew Wegner was not able to attend
the ceremony. The other medallist, Pilot Officer Paul Andrews,
was presented with a First Class Honours Degree of Physics and
the UNSW University Medal during the Degree Conferring Ceremonies
for Science and Engineering.
PLTOFF Andrews joined the RAAF in May 1994 as an Airman. After
completing trade training as an Aircraft Technician he had various
postings and in 2002 began Officer Training at Point Cook in Victoria.
After completing his training, PLT OFF Andrews moved on to ADFA
to complete a Science degree and an Honours Year with UNSW. He
will take up a post with the Air Defence Officer’s course
at the Surveillance and Control Training Unit at RAAF Base Williamtown.

The Honorary Doctorate of Letters was presented to Rear Admiral
James Goldrick. After leaving ADFA earlier this year, James took
up the post of Commander Joint Offshore Protection Command and
Director General Coastwatch. He has 32 year’s service in
the RAN and has a strong interest in naval history and contemporary
naval affairs. He has lectured and written extensively on various
topics. The Honorary Doctorate was awarded on the basis of James’
eminent service to the community and he was invited to deliver
the Occasional Address for the Business, Humanities and Social
Science conferral ceremonies.
The Engineering, Science and Technology Occasional Address was
delivered by Professor Veena Sahajwalla, who leads the research
on Sustainable Materials Processing at UNSW and is also a frequent
panel member on the ‘New Inventors’ television series.

Indoor Sports Centre - Reduced Hours
The ISC Hours up until 20 Dec 06 are as follows:
04 Dec 06 to 20 Dec 06 – 0700 h - 1900 h.
ISC will be closed from 21 December 2006 and will reopen on 15
January 2007, however the hours will vary due to YOFT training.
The ISC will not be open on weekends until 5 March 2007 from the
weekend of 11–12 Nov 06.

New ISC photo ID card
As of the 19 Jan 07 all UNSW employees that use The ADFA ISC
will be require to have the new ISC photo ID card. This new card
can be obtained from Tae Carlos from the front desk of the ISC
Mon-Fri 0900-1100 h . The new card will be valid for three years
or until employment at UNSW is terminated.

(s) or student (z) number as your username
and your ADFA password, go to 'options' then 'vacation message'.
Make sure you check; Enable automatic vacation reply.
Place in the dates that your away and 'save changes'.
All messages that are address to you will be replied with a vacation
message of your choice.
The reason for using the old mail client is because http://uwc.adfa.edu.au
does not follow over to 2007.
Please be aware that you can still use this site for all emails
over the holidays.
