Sally Burt received her PhD from the Australian National University in 2011 having previously taught as an Associate Lecturer of Strategic Studies at UNSW, Canberra. She has taught courses in History, Politics and International Relations both at UNSW, Canberra and ANU. She is a specialist in US diplomatic history and foreign policy and she is interested in the process of US foreign policy development both historically and in the current international environment. She is particularly interested in US relations with China and other parts of the Asia Pacific. She contributed chapters on China and Burma to the Hot Spot Histories series' Asia and Oceania volume published in 2008 which analyzed regional tensions and their historical development. She worked with a colleague from Mexico to co-edit two volumes Global Perspectives on US Foreign Policy published in 2013, and Global Perspectives on US Democratization Effort published in 2016 which include contributions from the editors and many other international scholars. She has also had a sole-authored monograph and other journal articles and book reviews published. Sally was a Visiting Fellow at the University of Florida during the 2010 US summer and undertook an institute on US foreign policy there. She also spent the 2011 US summer as a fellow at West Point Military Academy in New York undertaking a program on military history. Sally is currently working on her next major research project that explores China’s role in the United Nations Security Council and hopes this will form the basis of her next book.
