Usman W. Chohan (b. Manhattan, New York) is ranked among the top 10 Business Authors in the world on the Social Science Research Network (SSRN, by L12M downloads). He has previously been a global Shaper of the World Economic Forum [1], and a Consultant with the World Bank [2].Usman W. Chohan has a sizeable profile in the public sphere, having regularly partnered with institutions such as SBS Radio (in 5 different languages) [3][4][5], The Project with Waleed Aly [6][7][8], La Tribune [9][10], the ABC [11][12], the BBC [13][14][15], and Business Insider [16][17][18], among many others. He has written more than 40 Opinion-Editorials for The Conversation [19], and he has been included in the Conversation's "50 Standout Articles from Australia's Top Thinkers" [20] (Melbourne University Press, 2016) for this work on the "PhD-Barista" labour market friction [21], and he was further featured in The Conversation's 2016 Annual Stakeholder Report as an "Impact & Engagement Success Story" [22] for his work on the "Name-Blind Resume" in Australia [23][24].

Usman  is a leading authority in research within a specialized subfield of legislative studies known as "Parliamentary Fiscal Scrutiny" [25], and his ideas have been used to challenge and contextualize the laws underpinning legislative budget institutions in even the strongest democracies [26], such as in Canada, where his work was used to inform the landmark parliamentary debate on amending the Parliamentary Budget Office Act (C-476, 2013). In 2017, he was part of the independent review into the Parliamentary Budget Office of Australia. He is also a leading researcher into cryptocurrencies, particularly on aspects of accountability, social adoption, and legality.

Usman is now a Post-doctoral Fellow at UNSW Australia. He had also completed a PhD in Economics on a full scholarship from UNSW as well, having created the first multidisciplinary synthesis of Independent Legislative Fiscal Institutions [25]. Usman's academic publications have advanced Theory of Public Value [28] and the Presidentialisation Thesis [29]. He is also an expert on budget reconstruction in war zones, having conducted the largest study of legislative budgeting in post-War Iraq [30].

Usman has an MBA from McGill; and he has done Masters coursework at MIT-Tsinghua [31].Given his rich 'tri-sector experience' that encompasses private sector, public sector and academia, Usman engages in consulting, research, and teaching in equal measure. He delivered the 2015 Foreign Affairs Lecture in the Global Leadership Program (GLP) at Macquarie University in Sydney [32]. In prior years he was the Special Situations Analyst in the Global Equities Team at Natcan Investment Management, the investment arm of the National Bank of Canada (2008-2012). The Global Equities team had six global investment professionals including Usman and $3 billion dollars in Assets under Management (AuM).

Usman is the President of the International Association of Hyperpolyglots [33][34]. He is fluent in seven Indo-European languages (English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi), and conversant in a Sino-Tibetan language (Mandarin) and a Construct Auxiliary language (Esperanto) [35][36][37]. He studies an Altaic language (Japanese), a Finno-Ugric language (Finnish), and an Afro-Asiatic language (Arabic) when he finds the occasion.
