The Future of
Astrophysics - The Next Few Years and Beyond
29th June - 1st July at Batemans Bay,
NSW South Coast
The Harley
Wood Winter school is an annual event consisting of a number of
lectures and informal discussions for Astronomy and Astrophysics
research students (post-graduate and honours as well as
interested others). The school takes place immediately before
the
annual scientific meeting of the Astronomical Society
of Australia which was held this year at The University of New South
Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy (UNSW@ADFA) in
Canberra from Sunday 2nd - Thursday 6th July.
The 2006
Harley Wood Winter School covered the areas of Astrophysics
relevant to current students while they are establishing
themselves in research careers.
Speakers were encouraged to talk about the current state of
science in their field before moving on to discussing the new
research, giving a good overview of the various areas of
Astronomy and Astrophysics. This theme allowed for a wide
variety of topics to be covered and has a good link with the
recent Astronomy decadal review carried out in 2005.
The school this year was held at Batemans Bay on the South Coast of NSW and
ran from Thursday the 29th of June until Saturday the 1st of July.
