9.00am to 5.00pm

Many of the problems, failures and costs associated with today's technology-dependent society can be traced to systemic issues regarding risk, reliability and resilience (R3). UNSW Australia and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) are pleased to present the inaugural R3 Seminar, which brings together some of the world's pre-eminent experts in these domains. Presentations and tutorials will be delivered on topics that have relevance to governments and industries trying to understand risks such as those posed by potentially catastrophic events associated with climate change. 'Resilience,' the ability of a system to withstand or recover from events that may cause failure, will be specifically addressed.

The seminar will also address reliability, which is crucial for the management of risk in complex systems and must inform organizational cultural paradigms. Speakers are from a wide range of domains and areas of expertise including risk management, mining, energy and defence. This seminar will be highly valuable for any organization wanting to position itself proactively to respond to emerging societal and systemic challenges.
