Research
Members of the academic staff are actively engaged in research. Research interests span the fields of economics, management, psychology, finance and accounting. Staff are also involved in interdisciplinary research projects.
The following are some key research areas pursued in the School.
- Economic and management aspects of innovation
This research covers the generation and absorption of knowledge in the context of business and industry competitiveness and economic growth. Staff are interested in innovation theory as well as applied research and public policy formation. - Decision making analysis
Research is undertaken to better understand decision making in increasingly complex decision environments. This encompasses the theory of decision making and applied studies in a variety of decision environments. - Defence economics and management
A major research interest focuses on the Defence organisation and defence industry. This includes defence specific research in the areas of procurement, innovation, project management, logistics and supply chains. - Leadership
Research in leadership comprises scholarly inquiry into various aspects of leadership in organisations. This includes strategic leadership, transformational behaviours and followership. - Drugs in sport
This is one of the more recently emerged research areas. It focuses on social science aspects of athletes’ use of performance enhancing substances and methods including the modelling of sportspeople’s drug taking decisions. - Small Arms and Light Weapons in Developing Countries
This project, initially funded by the UNSW Defence research grant, focused on the mechanics of the proliferation of illicit small arms in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.Various staff members have an on-going research interest in (higher) education and learning. This includes educational aspects of teaching disciplines, concepts of learning, defence education and business education.
