Dr David Hyndman is a Visiting Fellow with the School of Business, UNSW Canberra.

Professional and Teaching Experience

Dr David Hyndman received his PhD in Anthropology in 1980 and was an Associate Professor of Anthropology with the University of Queensland. His research focuses on competition over the management of natural resources in Asia Pacific, which has led to ethnic conflict over land use and land rights between Indigenous nations and the State. He has two books and over 80 publications based on his research in Papua New Guinea and from his research in the Philippines he has contributed a book and over 20 other publications. He was an applied anthropological researcher in natural resource management for the Social Science Program of the Bureau of Rural Sciences and he has been the Tertiary Education and Publications Manager for the Asia Pacific Civil-Military Centre of Excellence. Currently he is Senior Visiting Fellow in the Fragile States Program where he is collaborating with Dr Scott Flower and Professor Satish Chand in a research project titled 'Anthropology, Counterinsurgency and Civil-Military Relations for Stabilisation, Peacebuilding and Conflict Prevention'.
