Improving the disaster risk management: facilitating a transition to a long-term community development
This part of a developing body of work that emerged out research undertaken in Japan after the Tsunami. Muskat, Nakanishi and Blackman have developed a new cycle for disaster recovery. Although there are many current disaster recovery cycles, it transpired that the majority of research is undertaken on the early stages of disaster. For effective longer term recovery, there is a need to look at research in the later stages. Areas for research so far are around leadership, governance and the role and use of volunteers.
