Climate intervention technologies aim to counteract climate change by reflecting sunlight away from the earth or removing CO2from the atmosphere at large scale. Researchers in the United States are preparing to test the reflective properties of particles injected into the stratosphere. Large scale removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere will almost certainly be necessary for countries to meet the Paris Agreement target of holding climate change to 20C. These technologies raise important questions for Australia's national security.
