Ships off shore

BACK

This image from the film shows six Indonesian warships off the coast, seen from the fort at Balibo. The six warships were inserted into the image as part of the editing process. The image is based on a draft of a letter written by one of the five journalists (Brian Peters) dated 15th October 1975. Peters wrote that the Indonesians had "six ships just on their side of the border, a couple of Destroyers, a few patrol boats and what looks like supply boats."

At the time, the Indonesian navy was using three Claud Jones-class destroyers purchased from the US Navy. It renamed them the Teluk Saleh, the Monginsidi and the Ngurah Rai.
