Magnetic structure and magnetism of new materials for magnetic refrigeration

PhD Scholar Nazrul Makmor presents his research, a comprehensive study of magnetic materials suitable for efficient magnetic refrigeration. Particular emphasis in the study is tuning the transition temperature by modifications to the stoichiometry that will produce a large/significant magnetocaloric effect (MCE). Two systems with different types of magnetic phase transitions are being considered including Heusler alloys of the form Ni50(Mn1-xFex)36Sn14 and the rare-earth intermetallic (Sm1-xRxMn2Ge2) (R = rare-earth) compounds.
