Description of Work: 

Objectives:

Fibre reinforced polymers (FRPs) have been used to reinforce and strengthen the concrete structures and lot of research has been done in this area. But the structural behaviour of FRP strengthened concrete structures under cyclic loading has not been investigated widely. Thus it is important to study the structural performance especially the interfacial failure between the FRP and concrete under cyclic loading. Dr. Zhang and her student have developed effective numerical models and finite element analysis software for the structural behaviour of FRP strengthened concrete slabs under cyclic loading. This research will study of the structural behaviour of FRP strengthened concrete beams under fixed point cyclic loading experimentally and numerically. A new finite element model will be developed to model the debonding between the FRP and concrete. Effective material models and bond slips models will be developed and validated.

The candidate needs to have background and knowledge on Finite Element Analysis and Method and experience and interest on programming using Fortran is desired.
