Planning your BA or BSc Timetable in 2008 to Avoid Course Clashes
The UNSW@ADFA timetable is designed by defining time slot “blocks” for academic courses and military activities. Classes are distributed throughout the available teaching hours within these blocks to give the actual timetable. There are not enough hours available for all possible combination of courses so the blocks contain more than one discipline area, which means there are constraints on the available course combinations that students can take. Please consider the following information carefully when planning your timetable:
| • | COURSES SHARING A BLOCK WILL CLASH AND CANNOT BE TAKEN TOGETHER. |
| • | WHEN ENROLLING IN FIRST YEAR, YOU SHOULD CONSIDER CLASHES IN ALL THREE YEARS OF YOUR PROGRAM WHEN CHOOSING COURSES. |
| • | WHEN ENROLLING IN SECOND YEAR, YOU MUST LOOK AT BOTH SECOND AND POTENTIAL THIRD YEAR COURSES TO CHECK FOR CLASHES. |
| • | WHEN PLANNING A DOUBLE MAJOR, YOU MUST LOOK AT THIRD YEAR CLASHES BECAUSE COURSES THAT CLASH IN THIRD YEAR CANNOT BE TAKEN TOGETHER IN A DOUBLE MAJOR. |
For special cases such as repeating students or students with advanced standing, special arrangements must be made with the relevant Schools.
The tables below lists pairs of courses that share the same block and therefore clash. You cannot take courses that appear as pairs in these tables. For example, in first year, Geography and Physics courses cannot be taken without clashes so you will not be allowed to enrol in both.
FIRST YEAR CLASHES |

| Chemistry | - | English |

Second Year
Some courses are timetabled outside the block structure. Under no circumstances can these courses be taken if they clash with another course which is part of either a major or a minor. Second year courses in this category are ZPEM2203, ZPEM2206 and ZITE2403.
Most but not all the School of Humanities and Social Sciences courses can be taken together.
IF YOU ARE PLANNING A DOUBLE MAJOR, YOU MUST LOOK AT THIRD YEAR CLASHES
