    Final Chance for Registration

The organising committee is very pleased with the response to the conference. In what promises to be a very interesting program, presenters from South Africa, United Kingdom, Australia, Netherlands, Malaysia and the US will bring their perspectives on eLearning in Defence College environments.

PLEASE NOTE: Registrations close on Monday the 3rd of March, 2009. Any registrations received after that date may not be processed, or if they are, may be subject to a late fee of R400. The registration fee of R3300 covers all formal and social aspects of the conference. The ‘Additional Tickets’ listed on the Registration Form are needed only if you intend to bring a partner to the social functions. The Committee regrets that it will be unable to receive payment for registrations at the conference, so all participants need to pay before the conference begins.

    New Year Brings New Registrations

Greetings to you for the New Year from the DACeL organising committee. The countdown to the conference now really begins. With about eight weeks to go, much of the program is finalised (see below) although there are still some changes in response to participant requests. Participants who have registered up until mid January come from Malaysia, Netherlands, United States, United Kingdom, South Africa and Australia.

As this is an inaugural conference, there is a wide range of topics being canvassed through papers, workshops, case studies and round tables. This provides all participants the opportunity to contribute to the discussion in a range of contexts from formal to informal to social (at each of the networking functions). The online program, shows that a special session (Organisational Contexts) has been created to allow representatives from selected institutions to describe a little of their organisation, its policies, procedures and activities. All presentations and papers provided within the timeline will be available to participants at the conference as part of a package of information.

    Why an Inaugural DACeL Conference?

This is the first time for an event of this nature for such a specific group. The genesis of the idea for such a conference came from an ongoing email discussion between Dr. Darien Rossiter, Noelle van der Waag and Allan Herrmann, from three different defence-related universities; Cranfield (United Kingdom), Stellenbosch at the South African Military Academy (South Africa), and University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy (Australia).

From this discussion it emerged that these institutions displayed similarities yet also distinct differences in the manner they addressed eLearning issues in defence academy environments. Whilst many of these are addressed in more general eLearning conferences, it was felt that there were enough peculiarities in defence academy environments to warrant a focussed gathering.
