Military Communications Program

About MCP

Role

The Military Communication Program is a component of the Academy Military Education and Training (AMET). AMET is the three-year program that provides midshipmen and officer cadets with the fundamental knowledge, skills and attitudes required of junior officers in the Australian Defence Force.

As the Military Communication Program is part of the academy graduation requirement, all aspects must be successfully completed in order for graduate status to be conferred on midshipmen and officer cadets.

Over the three years, MCP provides instruction in:

  • applying effective writing techniques;
  • producing administrative and operational documents in accordance with the ADFP 102 (Defence writing manual);
  • applying effective oral communication strategies; and
  • preparing and delivering formal oral presentations.

Appointment

The Military Communication Program is provided under service contract by University College to the Australian Defence Force Academy. UNSW became the new provider for MCP in January 2002. It is currently in the third year of its contract.
