A new round of the UNSW Faculty of Engineering and UNSW@ADFA International Research Collaboration Scheme will take place in 2008. In this new round of the Engineering/ADFA Collaboration Scheme a total of $280,000 will be available for distribution to collaborative research projects for funding in 2008/2009. These projects can either be continuations of previous collaborations or completely new proposals. In 2008, this initiative also seeks to promote international collaboration with universities in the Asia-Pacific region.

To support an Early Career Researcher at level A or B, who has been awarded their PhD or equivalent within five years of the submission date of their application; or received their first academic or research appointment within the last five years.

The Special Research Grants (SRG) are aimed at providing funding to full-time academic staff to develop their research to be competitive nationally in terms of quality and/or ability to attract external funding. Grants of up to $10,000 may be awarded, but awards will not normally exceed $5,000 unless a sufficiently strong case is presented.

Provides funding to full-time continuing academic staff in the form of scholarships to attract new research students. The funding provided under this scheme can only be used to provide research scholarship stipends. The stipend and conditions for RTS Scholarships are the same as the University College Postgraduate Research Scholarship (UCPRS).

Applications accepted from ongoing Academic Staff in their first 2 yrs of appointment. Grant normally up to $10,000.
Name: Faculty Research Grants (Silverstar Scheme)
Closing Date: N/A
The Silverstar Scheme is conducted along similar lines to the UNSW Goldstar scheme but with a reduced funding level. Funds will only be available to unsuccessful Discovery applicants in a similar way to the Goldstars. The successful UNSW@ADFA Silverstar grants will be selected after the UNSW Goldstar grants have been announced. Selection will be on the basis of the list of UNSW@ADFA unsuccessful ARC Discovery applicants until the allocation of funds has been expended.

Is aimed at building research groups to achieve critical mass and encouraging cross-disciplinary research in both existing and emerging areas of research strengths.

Faculty Research Grants Committee

The Faculty Research Grants Committee is responsible for assessing internal grant applications and for formulating policies with regard to internal research funding. The Committee, chaired by the Associate Dean (Research), consists of two representatives each from Engineering, Humanities and Science. The composition of the committee in 2008 is:
