National Food Presentation - 31 May 2007

Sinisa Marcic, Postgraduate Research Student from the School of HASS, came up with the idea of organising a National food presentation afternoon which was held in the ACME/Postgraduate Student tea room (adjacent to the Research Hub). This event was aimed at bringing together Postgraduate Research Students on this campus (currently from more than 35 different nationalities) for a relaxing and enjoyable afternoon and for students to celebrate the cultural diversity of the student body on this campus.

Students were requested to bring a plate of their favourite dish that is considered to be a national hallmark, to serve it on the 'presentation table' and offer to other students to taste. There was a huge choice of vegetarian, halal and other foods to try which resulted in full bellies and very happy faces. New faces were recorded in our brains and space widely open for similar events in the future.

Soccer Tournament - 24 June 2007
Postgraduate Research Students together with Practicum students from the School of ACME, joined together to form a team and compete in a soccer tournament held on 24 June 2007 at the Hawker soccer fields. The tournament was organised by the Muslim community of Canberra and sponsored by the Department of Immigration & Citizenship Australia and ACT Government. Captain of the team, Kamaljit Singh says that they played three qualifying matches. Unfortunately the team lost all of their matches and did not make the finals. Overall the team did well and are training hard for their next match against the 4th year undergraduate ADFA students.
2nd National Food Presentation - 27 July 2007
Another successful national food presentation afternoon was held on Friday 27 July. Students who are not into cooking or do not have the time due to their study commitments were encouraged to pop in to their favourite shop, grab a prepared dish (sweet or savory) and bring it along, as long as it conveyed the flavour of the student's culture. Although this event was similar to the first one, the organisers added some extra fun in the form of a team-building game based on negotiating an imaginary minefield.
