Online Supervision Training
A new online Development Program for UNSW Research Higher Degree Supervision is currently being trialled at our campus. All staff new to supervision are strongly encouraged to register and complete the online program of independent study. More experienced supervisors will find the downloadable resources and tools available in the modules such as the ‘ Supervision guide for supervision meetings ' or examples of research plans, useful tools to assist you in your role as a supervisor.

There are six supervision modules which have been designed to help you work alone or with colleagues to explore the issues and techniques of research higher degree supervision. Each of the modules fits into a coherent program of independent study that revolves around six distinct stages of supervision:
- Preparing for supervision
- Meeting your student
- Managing the process
- Reviewing progress
- Helping your student to write
- Completing the thesis
You can use the resources on this site in a number of different ways. You can:
- complete a program of independent study focused on your professional and scholarly development as a supervisor;
- find out about the institutional policies and procedures which govern research higher degree education at UNSW;
- access discrete (stand-alone) resources about supervision training, development and pedagogy that are relevant to your specific needs.
The program will be available until 30th September 2008. If you have any questions or would like to provide feedback on the website, please contact Iona Reid, Student Liaison Manager, Graduate Research School ( i.reid@unsw.edu.au , 02 9385 6067).
