TENIX HMAS PERTH RESEARCH AWARD

The University of New South Wales at the Australian Defence Force Academy (UNSW@ADFA), supported by the HMAS PERTH National Association and with the sponsorship of Tenix Defence, invites applications for the inaugural Tenix HMAS PERTH Research Award. The purpose of the award is to perpetuate the stories of the ten ANZAC class ships completed at Tenix's Williamstown facility between 1995 and 2006 as well as the histories of their predecessor ships. The award will fund an original research project on some aspect or aspects of these ships, their companies, or people or organisations directly associated with them. The research should contribute to an understanding of the ships and their people in the context of the nations they have served and continue to serve.

The award will have a value of $10,000 p.a. for a maximum two-year period. Shorter projects may be eligible but will not normally be of less than one year's duration. Enrolment in a postgraduate degree will not be a requirement, but a successful applicant who is also accepted as a full-time or part-time candidate for a masters or doctoral degree at UNSW@ADFA will receive a supplementary research scholarship for the duration of the award currently valued at $10,431 pa. In the case of a full-time PhD enrolment, a research scholarship may be provided for the third year subject to satisfactory progress. Research may also be conducted at post-doctoral level. The recipient will be expected to produce a tangible and preferably publishable research outcome, under the supervision of UNSW@ADFA , by the conclusion of the term of the Award.

The Award is open to all Australian or New Zealand citizens or residents. Three hard copies, including an application form, research proposal of 500-1500 words, and any supporting material, should be submitted by 31 August 2007. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
