Appointment of Professor John Richards, FTSE as the third Rector of the University College.
Emeritus Professor John Richards graduated from the University of New South Wales with the degrees of Bachelor of Engineering (Hons 1) in 1968 and Doctor of Philosophy in 1972, both in Electrical Engineering.
In the 1980s he was the foundation Director of the Centre for Remote Sensing at UNSW in Sydney and went on to become Professor and Head of the School of Electrical Engineering at UNSW Canberra from 1987-96, concurrently Deputy Rector from 1991-96 and then Rector from 1996-98. He remains an Emeritus Professor at UNSW.
Professor Richards was formerly Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice President of the ANU, Dean and Director of the College of Engineering and Computer Science and then Master of University House. He is the recipient Centenary Medal in 2003 and was made a Member of the Order of Australia in 2009.
