4th Annual Systems Modelling Conference 2020, UNSW Canberra

A Virtual Conference

Systems thinking and modelling is the science of integration, where every system is conceptualised as a set of inter-related components. Systems thinking and systems modelling provides a problem-solving approach that helps us develop the capacity to understand and manage complexity in a systemic way and how to deal with it in multi-stakeholder situations. It enables researchers to answer several questions, such as how an assumedly pure-technical/infrastructural system co-evolves with the society and economy, how a system can result in unexpected behaviours in long-term, and how we should be prepared to deal with unexpected surprises and shocks.

The Capability Systems Centre runs one-day conference on the use of whole-systems approach to design and manage complex problem in socio-technical and socio-ecological systems. The daylong virtual conference on October 27th will feature showcases on the use of systems thinking and systems modelling in a wide range of areas.

The event provides a platform for researchers and practitioners to communicate about scientific and practical aspects of real-world problems, receive feedback, and share learning lessons. It also provides a unique networking opportunity among people from academia, industry and government for initiating future collaborations. The 4th Annual Systems Modelling Conference was supposed to be hold on September 10th but due to impacts of Covid-19 restriction, the conference is postponed to October 27th.

Covid-19 – Impacts on Annual Systems Modelling Conference 2020

In light of the global Covid-19 outbreak, the Annual Systems Modelling Conference 2020 aims to support international efforts to slow the spread of the virus and ensure the safety of individuals and communities. As a result of the pandemic, SMC2020 will be held as a virtual conference. We believe that this free virtual conference is an opportunity to create an inclusive event in which everyone around the world can attend and make contribution.

We look forward to welcoming you to the virtual SMC2020 in October.
