KRI has extensive international networks in Southeast Asia and Australasia. The first is the Universities Network (also known as Ten Strategic Partner Universities), and the second is the Universities-Government Institutions Network (also known as CPPR Forum).
Our partner universities are leaders and the national hubs for Korean Studies. They are also the first-tier and highest ranked in their respective countries as well as globally. Through this network, KRI and partner universities conduct research projects in Korean Studies with specialisations in Political Studies, Economics, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Language and History.
In Australia, UNSW Sydney is the research and education hub of Korean Studies.
In Cambodia, the Royal University of Phnom Penh is the hub of Korean Studies in research and education.

In Laos, the National University of Laos is the hub of Korean Studies in research and education.
In Malaysia, the University of Malaya is the hub of Korean Studies in research and education.

KRI formed the first strategic Universities-Government Intuitions Network in 2012 with an aim to conduct collaborative and comparative research on public policy in Southeast Asia, Australia and Korea. This network is specifically named to highlight its purpose as a Comparative Public Policy Research (CPPR) Forum of KRI. The CPPR Forum consists of research partners from Korea, Australia and eight Southeast Asian countries’ universities, government research institutes and policymakers.
CPPR Forum’s primary activities are to conduct collaborative and comparative research on public policy challenges facing governments in Southeast Asia and to share the outputs of this research via symposiums and workshops. After three years of planning and following several pilot research projects managed by KRI, the CPPR Forum was formally formed through the inaugural CPPR Symposium held in Yangon in 2014. The operating arms of the CPPR Forum consist of advisory board members, research project directors and researchers from participating institutions. CPPR participants comprise key personnel from public policy reform agencies and distinguished scholars from participating countries.
The CPPR Forum and KRI conducted a collaborative research workshop on 6 November 2015, in Manila which was co-hosted by the Asia Development Bank and the Korea Foundation.
CPPR Forum has two working systems. The Advisory Board informs the governance of developing research issues and cooperates with collective research projects and workshops. Members are senior researchers from universities and public research institutes, and senior policymakers from government bodies from eight countries in Southeast Asia, Korea and Australia.
KRI manages this research network in the field of comparative public policy studies.
