Major activities of KRI stem from three pillars of core capabilities:

KRI research projects

Research projects in all areas of Korean Studies including Political Studies, Economics, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Language and History.

Collaborative research projects

Collaborative research projects in Korean Studies and Korea-related research with other institutions in Southeast Asia, Australasia and Korea.

Publication

Publication of periodical journal (IROKS), research discussion papers, monographs and conference proceedings in Korean Studies and Korea-related research.

Collaborative research networks

KRI has extensive international networks in Southeast Asia and Australasia. The two distinctive collaborative research networks currently in operation are the Universities Network (also known as Ten Strategic Partner Universities) and the Universities-Government Institutions network (also known as CPPR Forum).

Collaborative institutions

KRI has strategic networks with government departments and institutions in Korea, Australasia and Southeast Asia through receiving research grants and support for Korean Studies-related activities, joint organisation of policy workshops, conducting collaborative research and facilitating public diplomacy in Australasia and Southeast Asia. There are more than 25 government, academic and non-government institutions across eight Southeast Asian countries that are proactively engaged with KRI.

Teaching in Korean Studies

Support for the development of teaching programs in Korean language and Korean Studies courses at various institutions in Australasia and Southeast Asia as well as, providing training, development courses, workshops and seminars for teachers in Korean language and Korean Studies, in conjunction with other research centres and teaching institutions in the region.

Scholarly support

Provision of support to other institutions and researchers in the Australasia and Southeast Asia region undertaking Korean Studies and Korea-related research activities.
