KRI@UNSW conducts research projects in all areas of Korean Studies but with specialisations within Political Studies, Economics, Sociology, Cultural Studies, Language and History. Within its disciplinary specialisations, KRI@UNSW specifically identified four key inter-disciplinary research areas as follows; Politics and Public Administration; Economic Development and International Business; Society, Culture and Cultural Industries; Korean Language Education and Linguistics
Majority of research projects at KRI@UNSW are conducted through its collaborative research networks with research partners around Australasia, Korea and Southeast Asia and also through other regional hubs scattered around the globe. Distinctively, there are two major collaborative research networks in operations. The first is the Universities Network (aka. Ten Strategic Partner Universities) and the second is Universities-Government Institutions network (aka. CPPR Forum).
