Recall Service – Access Library Items on Loan

UNSW is currently impacted by public health and stay at home orders. Recalls for physical items (e.g. book loans) originating in Sydney may not be available. Significant restrictions continue to impact other branches which may cause delays or cancellations of recall requests.

The UNSW Library allows you to recall items currently out on loan to other borrowers. When you recall an item, we notify the current borrower that they have seven (7) days to return the item. Loan periods change to four (4) days when an item is requested by more than one client and this may reduce further if more recalls are placed. Note that fines apply for late return of recalled items.  

Once an item you have recalled has been returned you will receive an email notice advising when you can collect your loan from the Academy Library Service Desk. Requested items will be held at the Library for collection for seven (7) days.  

To recall a library item:  

If you have identified an item in the SearchGateway which you would like to access and it is on loan, you can place a recall on this item. 

  • Sign in to myLibrary to activate this feature in your SearchGateway results.
  • The Request option appears at the top of the Get It section as an active link - i.e. REQUEST OPTIONS: Request
  • Click through and fill in the mandatory details.
  • If not signed in, the Request link in the Get It section is not activated until you follow the option to Sign-in for more options is located in the same place under Sign-in for more options. 

Intercampus Loans Service

UNSW is currently impacted by public health and stay at home orders. Interlibrary loan services for physical items (e.g. book loans) originating in Sydney are not currently available. Significant restrictions continue to impact other branches which may cause delays or cancellations of intercampus loan requests.

The UNSW Intercampus Loans service allows UNSW Canberra staff and students to request items from any of the libraries of UNSW Sydney. Requests can be for items that are on the shelf or out on loan.

When the item arrives at the Academy Library, you will be sent a notice to your official UNSW email address advising the item is available. If you are on-campus you will be able to collect the item/s from the Academy Library Service Desk.  Requested items will be held for collection for seven (7) days. If you are off-campus, arrangements will be made to post the item to you.

Please note that some collections are unavailable for request.  These include physical Course Readings items, some audio-visual resources, and map collection items. Materials not available from the UNSW Library collections may be able to be acquired from another library via UNSW’s Interlibrary Loan/Document Supply (ILL/DSS) service.  

Interlibrary Loan & Document Supply Service

UNSW is currently impacted by public health and stay at home orders. Interlibrary loan services for physical items (e.g. book loans) are not currently available. Significant restrictions continue to impact other libraries which may cause delays or cancellations of interlibrary loan requests.

Depending on your borrowing privileges you may be able to request materials not available in our UNSW Library collections via the UNSW Library’s ILL request form Service.   

Items can either be physical items (interlibrary loans) or electronic document supply of items (e.g. scanned chapters, digitised articles, etc.).
