Magnetic and optical properties of transition metal and rare earth ion doped materials

Scientia Project Summary: 
Rare earth and transition metal doped materials have found an enormous range of real world applications such as electronic devices, lasers, LEDs etc. The project will employ highly advanced and specialised spectroscopic techniques to investigate a range of topical materials from the nanoscale to macroscopic crystals. Spectroscopic techniques include Moessbauer and low temperature Laser spectroscopy and also other modern techniques in material science will be employed.
