Matthew Hand

Business Development Associate — Defence, Consultant
UNSW Canberra
Defence Research Institute

My name is Matthew Hand and I am currently the Business Development Associate — Defence at UNSW Canberra. My role is to help connect research academia to industry and to assist in the development of intellectual property with the defence capability space. I served 9 years in the Australian Army as a Parachute Rigger and reached the rank of Corporal, during my time in the Army I was able to obtain 3 Diplomas and that assisted me into starting university and studying a Graduate Certificate in Business. I moved to Canberra in 2020 and fell in love with the food, open highways and the opportunities that come with a capital city and that's what brought me to UNSW Canberra.

I love working in a team and thrive in that environment, I believe a team brings out more in people whether it be in a friendly competitive nature or being in a supportive environment that encourages improvement. My personal hobbies are spearfishing, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, listing to music while at the gym and watching movies at the cinema.
