Operations Research

In practice, Operations Research (OR) is known as the science of better and responsible management. OR applies scientific tools and techniques to addressing and evaluating important decision choices confronted by organisations under complex and continually changing decision environments. OR process usually involves the problem identification, problem definition, development of mathematical model, selecting or developing the solutions approaches and/or computational tools that would generate the best possible decisions of the problem. The qualitative and simulation approaches are also important for decision analysis in OR. At the research side, OR researchers work to analyse complex decision systems, develop new models and methodologies, and improve and expand the existing methodologies.

The relevant coursework program for operations research at UNSW Canberra is the Master of Decision Analytics: https://www.unsw.adfa.edu.au/degree/postgraduate-coursework/master-decision-analytics-8634
