Prof. Peter Stanley's SSP Highlights

In January Prof. Peter Stanley returned from SSP, which he mostly spent in Britain researching and writing his next book, Hul! Hul!: the Santal Rebellion, 1855. On the way home he spent two weeks in India, locating sites in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal associated with the rebellion, and researching and attending a conference in Kolkata (where the air quality was better than in Canberra). While in Kolkata he gave a talk to students at Bongabashi Evening College, and is here presenting an Arts student with a book prize (for asking the best question). Peter confirmed his links with postgraduates by launching the UNSW Canberra occasional paper he edited, ‘Jadavpur Junction: New Writing in Indian History’, at Jadavpur University while in Kolkata.
