Professor Shirley Scott elected President of the Asian Society of International Law


Shirley Scott, Professor of International Law and International Relations and Head of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at UNSW Canberra has been elected President of the Asian Society of International Law.

Professor Scott was elected at the Society’s 7th Biennial Conference, held in Manila last month.

The Society promotes research, education and practice among international law scholars and practitioners in Asia and elsewhere; fosters and encourages Asian perspectives on international law; and promotes awareness of and respect for international law in Asia.

Professor Scott has played a key role in the development of the Society since its founding in 2007.

As the Society’s sixth President, Professor Scott will promote region-wide discussion of international legal issues facing Asia and the world and will represent the Society in international fora.

She is also chair of the organising committee for the Society’s 8th Biennial Conference, which will be held in Canberra in August 2021, with UNSW Canberra as one of its primary sponsors.
