Project description
Recent research has shown that the shape of a fire, the perimeter and area of the burning region are crucial to the development of firestorms. Using state of the art simulation techniques, this project will build upon our previous research by investigating different fire configurations and by considering fires that grow over time. This research will inform operational models of firestorm development and will assist in providing early warnings of catastrophic fire events.
Desired background
BSc in mathematics, physics, meteorology, BEng (mech), or equivalent preferred. Masters by research or practical experience is an asset. The successful applicant would need to meet the Australian Government H1E standards and UNSW entry standards.
