Abstract This collection comprises manuscript papers produced by George Odgers for two of his books Aces wild (1988) and Army Australia : an illustrated history (1988).

Biographical Note

George James Odgers was born on 29 March 1916 in Perth, Western Australia. He was educated at Perth Boys High School and studied at the University of Western Australia and completed a Master of Arts at Melbourne University.

Odgers worked as a journalist on the Argus and The Age. He enlisted in the Australian Army on the 25 October 1943, serving in New Guinea and Borneo, and was discharged on 8 August 1945. He enlisted with the Royal Australian Air Force and served in the Korean War, in Malaya and in Vietnam retiring as a Group Captain in 1981. In 1965 he became head of Public Relations for the Department of Air, and in 1975 head of Historical Studies for the Department of Defence. He was also a military historian and wrote a number of books on the history of the Australian armed services and was appointed an official World War 2 war historian.

George Odgers died on 20 March 2008.
