This collection was donated by John Howard to The Howard Library in 2017.
Special Collections houses two separate archives documenting John Howard's political career: JHL 001 (personal papers, as described in this finding aid) and NAA 001 (official records). Complementing JHL 001, John Howard's official government records, amassed by John Howard and staff as parliamentarian were transferred to the National Archives of Australia and housed by special arrangement at UNSW Canberra as the 'John Howard Collection' (under Section 64 of the Archives Act 1983). Although the records are predominantly official in nature, the archive includes some residual personal papers. The Finding Aid for NAA 001 can be found here: https://unsw.adfa.edu.au/special-collections/guide-john-howard-collection-naa-001
The green Chesterfield armchairs and sofa used by John Howard in his Prime Ministerial office were moved to the John Howard Reading Room in 2016 to mark the 20th anniversary of the election of the Howard Government. They are on long-term loan to UNSW from the Department of Parliamentary Services. https://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/new-lease-of-life-for-john-howards-fabled-seat-of-power/news-story/e9531e96ff10c433a4b76618dfadee1a
