The papers of author and playwright Nigel Krauth consist of correspondence, news clippings, photographs, reviews, manuscripts, and research material for novels and plays. The bulk of the collection comprises drafts of Krauth’s novels, including Matilda, My Darling (1983) and The Bathing Machine Called the Twentieth Century (1988)

Author and playwright Nigel Krauth, born in Sydney in 1949, was educated at the University of Newcastle, University of Queensland and the Australian National University. He went on to teach English, creative writing and Australia literature at several universities including the University of Papua New Guinea and Griffith University. In 1982 Krauth was the co-winner of the Vogel Literary Award for his novel ‘The Jolly Swagman Affair’(published in 1983 as best-seller Matilda, My Darling)and later won the Christina Stead prize for fiction in 1991. Besides novels, Krauth has published and edited many short stories and articles, plays, reviews and essays, and together with Caron Krauth written several books for young readers
