Tim Thorne was born in 1944 in Launceston, Tasmania, where he has lived most of his life. He has authored 14 volumes of poetry, having first published in the mid-1960s, and has worked as a poet in schools, universities and prisons. He has a long association with literary events and initiatives in Tasmania, including the inauguration the Tasmanian Poetry Festival in 1985 and invention of the poetry performance concept the ‘Launceston Poetry Cup’.
