UNSW beating the world in academic rankings
UNSW has been ranked in 50 subject areas in the prestigious ShanghaiRankings’ Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), a feat achieved by only one other university in the world.
“At UNSW Canberra we’re proud to be part of such a world-beating team, and especially proud of how well our engineering subjects have ranked,” said UNSW Canberra Rector Michael Frater.
Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering ranked in the top 50 and Civil Engineering 11th best in the world. UNSW Canberra offers engineering courses to both civilians and military personnel.
UNSW placed in the top 500 universities in the world in 50 of the 52 subjects ShanghaiRankings assess. UNSW joined Ohio State University–Columbus as the universities with the most subjects in the prestigious league table.
“This is an exceptionally good news story,” said UNSW Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Nicholas Fisk. “To be one of only two unis globally to be ranked in the most number of subjects is a fantastic result.”
ShanghaiRankings’ Global Ranking of Academic Subjects assesses more than 4,000 universities across natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences.
This is the first year ShanghaiRankings has created a league table covering so many subject areas. Previously the group’s Academic Rankings of World Universities assessed only 12 broad discipline areas.
