Safer Internet Day
Safer Internet Day 2020 is taking place on Tuesday 11 February 2020 with the theme "Together for a better internet". Once again UNSW Canberra Cyber will be joining forces with other Australian and global educators to work towards creating a safer, better and more trustworthy internet where everyone is empowered to use technology responsibly, respectfully and creatively.
Starting as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and taken up by the Insafe network as one of its earliest actions in 2005, Safer Internet Day has grown beyond its traditional geographic zone and is now celebrated in approximately 150 countries worldwide. In Australia, activities are led by the Commonwealth ESafety Office.
The campaign aims to reach out to children and young people, parents and carers, teachers, educators and social workers, as well as industry, decision makers and politicians, to encourage everyone to play their part in creating a better internet.
As part of our ongoing efforts to educate and support our online users – including our suite of videos, posters and online messaging – UNSW Canberra Cyber will use Safer Internet Day to raise awareness about online safety issues and inspire positive change.
Everyonehas a responsibility to make a positive difference online. We can all promote the positive by being kind and respectful to others and by seeking out positive opportunities to create and connect. We can all respond to the negative by reporting inappropriate or illegal content and behaviour online. Further information can be found on the Safer Internet Day website.
